A Client's Story

"He didn't just win my case. He gave me back my future, my peace of mind, and my ability to breathe again."

From the very first conversation, he changed everything. He didn't just see a case, he saw me, and treated me like family. His knowledge of the law was unmatched, but what truly set him apart was his humanity. If you are looking for a lawyer, stop searching right now.

DECORATIVE

I get asked about my fees almost every single day. People want to know what they’re really paying for before they hire me, and I don’t blame them one bit. Family Court is stressful enough without wondering if your legal bill is going to spiral out of control. So let me break it down the way I’d explain it to a friend sitting across my desk.

The Problem With “Flat Fee” at Most Firms

A lot of firms advertise a flat fee. It sounds great in the ad. Then a few court dates in, things get complicated, and suddenly you’re back to paying by the hour.

That’s how families get blindsided. They budgeted for one number and now they’re staring at a bill that keeps growing.

  • The case gets harder than expected
  • The other side fights back
  • The “flat fee” quietly turns into an hourly rate

Once that happens, some clients can’t keep up. And when the money runs out, some firms walk away.

What “All Appearances” Actually Means

Here’s my rule: my flat fee covers every appearance. It doesn’t matter if we go to court twice or twelve times. Here is exactly what that covers.

You pay one number for the pre-trial phase. You pay one number for trial. That’s it. No surprise charges after a hearing runs long, and no bill for every phone call or email either.

How the Fee Structure Works

I keep this simple on purpose, because legal bills shouldn’t feel like a mystery.

01

Pre-Trial Fee

This covers everything before trial. Filings, hearings, negotiations, conferences with the other side. All of it.

02

Trial Fee

This is a separate, set fee due 30 days before your trial date. You’ll know the number well ahead of time.

03

Payment Plans

Not everyone can pay a lump sum, and I understand that. Payment plans are available so cost doesn’t stop you from getting real representation.

I also offer discounted rates for veterans, active military, police, firefighters, EMS, and volunteer fire members. If that’s you, mention it when you call. And if you’re wondering whether a lawyer can stop working when the money runs low, here is the honest answer.

Why This Matters More in Suffolk County Family Court

Family Court cases here can stretch on longer than people expect. A custody case might need several return dates in Central Islip. A modification hearing might get adjourned in Riverhead. That’s normal.

What shouldn’t be normal is getting priced out of your own case halfway through. I’ve spent close to 40 years in Suffolk County Family Court, and I’ve built my fee structure around how these cases actually play out here, not around some national formula.

  • Cases involving CPS or neglect often take longer
  • Custody disputes can bounce between hearings for months
  • Enforcement and modification cases sometimes need multiple appearances

A flat fee protects you no matter which of these situations you’re in, and this is how flat fee representation works in New York.

A Quick Word on AI and Legal Documents

I want to be blunt about something I’m seeing more and more. People are using AI tools to write custody agreements or support paperwork on their own. Please don’t do this.

These tools spit out generic language. They don’t know Suffolk County’s court, your judge, or your family’s specific situation. A document that misses one detail can cause problems for years.

Custody and support agreements need a real person behind them. Someone who understands local practice and can catch the small details that actually matter.

What This Means for You and Your Family

At the end of the day, this isn’t really about billing. It’s about letting you focus on your kids instead of your bank account.

When you know your legal cost upfront, you can plan. You can breathe. You can put your energy into your case instead of worrying about the next invoice.

Straight Answers, No Surprises

I built my practice this way because families deserve honesty, not fine print. You shouldn’t have to guess what your case will cost or brace yourself for a bill that keeps climbing.

A flat fee means I’m in it with you until the end, not just until the retainer runs dry. That’s the kind of lawyer I want to be, and it’s the kind of representation Suffolk County families deserve.
